So You Assume captures the Stocks at her first start in stakes company
Having her first start in stakes company and her first run in six weeks, So You Assume (4 m ex Remlaps Jewel by Choisir) had no issue in stepping up to land Friday’s Stocks Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley. The win provided her Coolmore Australia-based sire So You Think (High Chaparral) with his 77th stakes winner.
Trained by Shane Nichols, So You Assume was partnered by regular jockey Dean Yendall and controlled the race from the front, pulling away to score by a length and a half over Magna Bella (Magnus).
So You Assume had won her two prior starts, the last of those coming at Caulfield over 1700 metres on August 14 and had trialled at Cranbourne on September 13.
"I didn't want to take away from the way she's been racing of late. My only worry was that she hadn't raced for 40-odd days but I was just hoping that the inside of the track had not too much wear and tear by the time I went and lit it up," Yendall said.
"She began cleanly and was able to find the front doing no work. She still went a half bit keenly on me and wanted to get it over and done with but I got her to switch off a little bit. Just enough for me to get a few sweeter sectionals.
"I asked her to quicken there at the Tabaret. I threw a few coins in the pokies and off we went.
"The way she carried on tonight she thinks she's a two-year-old."
Bought by her trainer for just $40,000 from the draft of Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, So You Assume took her record to five wins and three placings in 12 career starts with her earnings now just shy of $400,000.
"A Group Two winner by So You Think - I wouldn't mind owning her,” said stable representative Rob Kingston.
"I was just looking up the record and through her grades and well done to Shane because she's had six weeks between runs and she was good from the front today again.”
So You Assume is the only winner out of winning Choisir (Danehill Dancer) mare Relamps Jewel who is a half-sister to Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Manawanui (Oratorio).
