Hunnam breaks his maiden at Caulfield over 1200 metres
The stakes placed Hunnam (2 g ex Skating On Ice by Bradbury's Luck) broke his maiden over 1200 metres at Caulfield on Saturday to become the fifth Australian-bred winner for his Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit).
Trained by Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes, Hunnam finished third last weekend in the Redoute's Choice Stakes (Listed, 1100m) and on Saturday scored an impressive length and three quarters victory over He's Xceptional (Xtravagant). Cheerful Legend (Shalaa) was the same distance back in third.
Hunnam was bought for $150,000 by Redwall Bloodstock from the Rushton Park draft at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale before making $400,000 the following year when bought by Ardross Bloodstock from the Widden Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Shalaa's Australian-bred winners are headed by Shaquero while he has also sired the stakes placed pair Tayla's Moment and Nice For What. He is sitting third in the leading first season sires table in Australia by earnings and second in the table by winners behind Capitalist (Written Tycoon).
