11 for Shamus Award
Rosemont Stud-based sire Shamus Award (Snitzel) sired his 11th stakes winner on Saturday when the Edward Cummings-trained Duais (3 f ex Meerlust by Johannesburg) landed the Adrian Knox Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) at Randwick. The three-year-old filly was last seen winning over 1600 metres at Warwick Farm on March 31 and he built on that performance when he defeated Bargain (Ocean Park) by half a length. Shamus Award’s stakes winners are headed by Group 1 winner Mr Quickie.

Chairman’s Quality to Quick Thinker
Winless since his victory in the Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) at Randwick exactly a year ago, the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained Quick Thinker (4 c ex So You Think - Acouplamas by Al Maher) returned to the winners’ circle with a win in the Chairman’s Handicap (Gr 2, 2600m) on Saturday. The son of So You Think (High Chaparral) is one of 33 stakes winners for the Coolmore Stud-based sire and becomes the tenth stakes winner for the stallion this season who is currently sitting in fourth place in the Australian’s general sires’ table by earnings.

113 for Savabeel
Waikato Stud’s five-time champion stallion Savabeel (Zabeel) sired his 113th stakes winner on Saturday courtesy of Atishu’s (3 f ex Posy by No Excuse Needed) emphatic seven length victory over Exquisite Pearl (Power) in the Inglewood Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Riccarton. The three-year-old filly was purchased by Go Racing for NZ$260,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale in 2019 and she is out of dual winner Post (No Excuse Needed), who is herself a sister to multiple Group 1 winner Daffodil. Savabeel is leading the New Zealand general sires championship, sitting nearly NZ$763,677 ahead of Fastnet Rock (Danehill).

14 for Ocean Park
Savabeel’s barnmate Ocean Park (Thorn Park) was also provided with a new stakes winner on Saturday seeing his total tally to 14 courtesy of Whale Song’s (5 g ex Nadel Dame by Pins) win in the Easter Cup (Listed, 1600m) at Riccarton. The Michael and Matthew Pitman-trained five-year-old gelding stayed on bravely to beat Lightning Jack (Per Incanto) by a nose. The gelding was purchased by his trainers for NZ$10,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale in 2017 and he becomes the fourth stakes winner bred on the Sacred Falls / Pins (Snippets) cross and the quartet is headed by Group 3 winner Another Dollar.

Ten for Danerich
Rangal Stud-based sire Danerich (Danehill) sired his tenth stakes winner on Saturday when Royal Mile (3 g ex Street Blaze by Street Sense) landed the Port Adelaide Guineas (Listed, 1800m). The three-year-old gelding has never finished out of the first two in his seven career starts and Saturday’s victory was the fourth win of his career. Danerich’s stakes winners are headed by Group 2-winning duo Richie’s Vibe and Rich Charm.

39th Group winner for Iffraaj
Having taken out the Lex Piper Stakes (Listed, 1600m), Roberts Stakes (Listed, 1800m) and Melvista Stakes (Listed, 2200m) on his three previous appearances, the Grant and Alana Williams-trained Western Empire (3 g ex Western Jewel by Jeune) landed the Western Australian Derby (Gr 2, 2400m) on Saturday and in the process became former Haunui Farm shuttler Iffraaj’s (Zafonic) 39th Group winner. The stallion shuttled to Haunui Farm in New Zealand for 12 years siring 25 southern hemisphere-bred stakes winners, headed by Group 1 winners Turn Me Loose, Gingernuts, Jon Snow and Wyndspelle. He was replaced at the New Zealand nursery by his son Ribchester, while it was announced last week that another of his sons - Wootton Bassett - would shuttle to Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley for the 2021 breeding season.

Six for Fiorente
Sun Stud-based sire Fiorente (Monsun) was handed his sixth stakes winner when the Cindy Alderson-trained Liqueuro (3 g ex Little Darring by Galileo) took out the Galilee Series Final Handicap (Listed, 2400m) at Caulfield on Saturday. The three-year-old gelding had his St Leger Trial (2200m) form franked earlier in the day when Explosive Jack (Jakkalberry) - who finished second behind him in the race - landed the Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m). Fiorente’s stakes winners are headed by Group 2-winning pair Stars Of Carrum and Hawkshot.

139th Group winner for Deep Impact
Late Shadai Stallion Station-based stallion Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) sired his 139th stakes winner when Des Ailes (4 m ex Avenir Certain by Le Havre) landed the Hanshin Himba Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Hanshin. The four-year-old mare landed the Sweetpea Stakes (Listed, 1800m) as a three-year-old and she is out of dual Group 1-winning mare Avenir Certain (Le Havre). The mare is one of 172 stakes winners for Deep Impact. The stallion stood at Shadai Stallion Station for his whole breeding career, died in 2019 and he was represented by his sire sons Tosen Stardom, who stands at Woodside Park Stud and Coolmore Stud-based Saxon Warrior in Australia last season, while next season he will be represented by three-time Group 1 winner Fierce Impact who will stand at Leneva Park in Victoria.

Raging Bull takes Maker’s Mark
The Chad Brown-trained Raging Bull (5 h Dark Angel - Rosa Bonheur, by Mr. Greeley) landed his third win at Grade 1 level when he took out the Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes (Gr 1, 8f) at Keeneland on Friday. A winner of the Hollywood Derby (Gr 1, 9f) in 2018, he landed the Shoemaker Mile Stakes (Gr 1, 8f) last year and this was his first victory since his win in that race. Dark Angel is standing for a reduced fee of €60,000 in 2021, having commanded a fee of €85,000 last season and he is represented in Australia by Harry Angel, who covered his second book of mares at Darley’s Kelvinside base at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST) in 2020.
