152 for Medaglia d’Oro
The Brad Widdup-trained Adelong (5 m ex Snowgums by Redoute’s Choice) became the 152nd stakes winner for former Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado) when she won Saturday’s Bob Charley AO Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Randwick. Ridden by Jay Ford, the mare withstood the late challenge of Wandabaa (Wandjina) to score by a neck with Viridine (Poet’s Voice) another length and a quarter back in third. Widdup said the mare would now be freshened and prepared for an early spring campaign.

"I think we just went too far into the winter last year, then we tried to go through the spring and it was just too much," Widdup said.

"She has been a great mare for us and to get that black-type win, it means a lot."

Medaglia d’Oro shuttled to Australia for eight seasons between 2010 and 2017. He stood the 2021 breeding season at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for a fee of US$150,000.

80 for Iffraaj
Ayrton’s (3 g ex Odessa by Falkirk) victory in Saturday’s Gunsynd Classic (Gr 3, 1600m) at Eagle Farm provided former Haunui shuttler Iffraaj (Zafonic) with his 80th stakes winner. The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained gelding was beaten at short odds last start in the Fred Best Classic (Gr 3, 1400m), but ran away to score an impressive two and three quarter length victory over Ellsberg (Spill The Beans), with Mob Buster (Spill The Beans) another length and three quarters back in third.

"The horse is learning, and I was pleased that at least he looked a bit more professional and ran away with it," said Price.

"Whereas two weeks ago we seemed to be waiting forever for him to put his head down and do something. After this I would love to put a circle around the best return to the owners, which would be the Golden Eagle. I think that would be the best race for him.

"But (that's) to be discussed, and we'll have a think about it."

Iffraaj is now based at Darley’s Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket where he stood for a fee of £20,000 this year while his son Ribchester now shuttles to Haunui Farm.

23rd Group winner for So You Think
So You Think (High Chaparral) sired his 23rd Group winner on Saturday when Irish-bred stayer Knights Order (6 g ex Lamanka Lass by Woodman) won the Brisbane Cup (Gr 2, 3200m) for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. The son of So You Think ran away to score a four and three quarter length victory over Carif, another son of the Coolmore Australia-based sire.

Knights Order came into Saturday's race having won the Winter Cup (Listed, 2400m) at Rosehill last start.

"He has certainly gone to a new level this campaign," Bott said.

"We will give him a short freshen up and really hone-in now and see what we can come up with for the spring because I really feel he's a worthy contender and (he has) made that leap."

Originally trained in Newmarket by William Jarvis and purchased for 250,000gns at the 2018 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale by McKeever Bloodstock/Gai Waterhouse Racing, Knights Order is a half-brother to Group 2 winner Dark Islander (Singspiel) being out of Lamanka Lass (Woodman), who has left nine winners from 11 foals to race.

So You Think, who has sired 33 stakes winners overall, sits equal second in the leading sires table in Australia by earnings and he has sired 12 stakes winners to date this season.

10 for Verrazano
The Team Hawkes-trained Superium (4 g ex Rosie’s Halo by Al Maher) became the tenth stakes winner for Verrazano (More Than Ready) when he won the Hinkler Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The gelding, who started at odds of 16-1, beat Southern Lad (Ocean Park) by a length while Away Game (Snitzel) finished a close third.

Verrazano shuttled to Coolmore Australia for just one season in 2015 when he covered a book of 71 mares and he was sold to stand at Haras Old Friends in Brazil in 2019.

Five and six for Cable Bay
Former Woodside Park Stud shuttler Cable Bay (Invincible Spirit) notched up his fifth stakes winner on Saturday when Uncommon James (2 c ex Pickabee by Jet Spur) won the Oxlade Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Eagle Farm. Rudden by Ben Thompson, the colt defeated the Kacy Fogden-trained Maotai (Not A Single Doubt) by a head with another two and a quarter lengths back to King High (Not A Single Doubt) in third.

Now the winner of his last two starts having finished second on debut at the Gold Coast on May 22, Uncommon James is the first winner out of Listed placed mare Pickabee (Jet Spur). His second dam is four-time winner Emmabee (Bubble Gum Fellow), the dam of three winners from as many to race headed by Pickbee’s Listed winning sister Emmalene.

Cable Bay shuttled to Australia for the last four seasons but will not return in 2021. He has covered a total of 403 mares over those seasons in Australia.

Later on in the day in England, the Highclere Stud-based Cable Bay sired his sixth stakes winner when the Marco Botti-trained Atalis Bay (3 c ex Atalis by Holy Roman Emperor) won the Scurry Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Sandown.

The 800gns purchase at the 2019 Tattersalls February Sale defeated Warrior Bay (Twilight Son) by three quarters of a length with a further two and half lengths back to Steel Bull (Clodavil) in third.

337 for Galileo
Multiple Champion sire Galielo (Sadler’s Wells) registered stakes winner number 337 when Roberto Escobarr (4 c ex Bewitched by Dansili) won the Grand Cup Stakes (Listed, 1m6f) at York on Saturday.

Bred by Robert Scarborough in partnership with Carradale, Robert Escobarr was a €145,000 purchase by Richard Knight Bloodstock at the 2018 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale. He is the second stakes winner for Bewitched who was a six time stakes winner and has already produced Pablo Escobar (Galileo) who raced for the same connections.

Roberto Escobarr, who started favourite, defeated Red Verdon (Lemon Drop Kid) by one and half lengths with a further one and quarter lengths back to Makawee (Farhh) back in third.
