In The Navy (2 f ex Ennerdale by Singspiel) was impressive on debut on Saturday and in winning provided her sire, the Coolmore Stud-based Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) with his second winner.

Trained by Phillip Stokes, In The Navy led from the gates and pulled clear to score by a length and a quarter in the Coopers Brewery Plate (1100m) at Gawler.

Originally bought by Brian Grassick Bloodstock for 22,000 at the 2006 Tattersalls July Sale, Ennerdale (Singspiel) was most recently purchased by Glastonbury Farms for $150,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2008.

In The Navy races in the colours of Glastonbury Farm's Duncan Grimley who races the filly in a partnership with her other co-breeders. The filly becomes the eighth winner Ennerdale who has also produced the Group winning pair Samara Dancer (Hinchinbrook) and Eclair Big Bang (Savabeel) as well as the stakes placed trio Black Sail (Savabeel), Defiant Dancer (Foxwedge) and Dancer's Kin. (Ocean Park). Ennerdale was covered again last year by Merchant Navy.

Merchant Navy now sits fifth in the leading first season sires table in Australia by winners. The son of Fastnet Rock (Danehill) had 12 yearlings sell at the recent Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for a top price of $700,000 and at an average of $192,708 having stood for a fee of $55,000 (inc GST) in 2019.
