Miss Roseiano takes out Blue Diamond Preview.
The Peter Gelagotis-trained Miss Roseiano (2 f ex Special Lover by Pins) caused an upset in Wednesday's Blue Diamond Preview (F) (Gr 3, 1000m) at Caulfield, providing her sire, Darley's Exceed And Excel (Danehill) with his 192nd stakes winner and announced herself as a contender for next month's Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).
Under Jordan Childs, Miss Roseiano led from the barriers and scored a half length victory over Written Swoosh (Written Tycoon). The favourite, Latizia (Capitalist), finished third.
"We've had a lot of good horses, but this is one out of the box," Manny Gelagotis said. "To see what she did, to that opposition, on a day like today on her preparation so far, it's exciting to be a part of another good horse."
Miss Roseiano's time of 57.18 seconds was 0.57s faster than Daumier's (Epaulette) win in the colts and gelding's division and she now occupies a place on the $10 third line in TAB's Blue Diamond Stakes market, which is headed by Jacquinot (Rubick) at $5.Runner-up Written Swoosh ($12) was the most obvious hard-luck story, unable to find clear running until inside the 200 metres, but still peeled off an 11.31s final 200 metres to get within half-a-length of the winner, who started $14 after opening $10.Miss Roseiano was bought for $300,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale by Gelagotis Racing, James Bester and Osher Group when offered in the draft of her breeder Noorilim Park. She becomes the second winner and first stakes winner out of the Listed placed Pins (Snippets) mare Special Lover. Her second dam is Special Diamond (Zabeel), a daughter of Group One winner Diamond Lover (Sticks And Stones) whose six winners are headed by Group One winners Don Eduardo (Zabeel) and Tristalove (Sir Tristram), who in turn produced Lovetrista (Rock Of Gibraltar) and Kempinsky (Danehill).
Special Lover was covered by Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) in November having foaled a filly by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit).
Miss Roseiano becomes the 192nd stakes winner and 80th juvenile stakes winner by Darley's Exceed And Excel. Those two-year-old stakes winners include seven Group One winners in Guelph, Helmet, Earthquake, Microphone, Overreach, Outstrip and Reward For Effort.#ExceedAndExcel, the world's best sire of juveniles adds to his record with Miss Roseiano taking out the G3 Blue Diamond Preview (F) @MelbRacingClub.
