Rebel Dane, I Am Invincible, Toronado & Burgundy sire new Group 1 winners on Saturday

New Group 1 winners
First for Rebel Dane
Rebel Dane (California Dane) sired his first Group 1 winner when his daughter, Fireburn (2 f ex Mull Over by So You Think), won the Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The Gary Portelli-trained filly came from back in the field to pull two and a half lengths clear of Best Of Bordeaux (Snitzel), with favourite, Coolangatta (Written Tycoon), third. Fireburn was bred by Laurel Oak Bloodstock and is the first foal out of winning So You Think (High Chaparral) mare Mull Over who was bought by Laurel Oak for just $22,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2018. 

Rebel Dane has two crops of racing age and covered a book of 49 mares last season having covered just 14 the year prior. 

The victory also provided Coolmore Stud's So You Think (High Chaparral) with his first Group 1 winner as a broodmare sire. 

 

Three for Toronado 
Shelby Sixtysix (5 g ex Storm Kite by Honours List) continued his rapid improvement, taking out Saturday's Galaxy (Gr 1, 1100m) at Rosehill and becoming the third Group 1 winner for Swettenham Stud shuttler Toronado (High Chaparral). Trained by Danny Williams, Shelby Sixtysix stepped up to stakes company two starts ago finishing second in the Challenge Stakes (Gr 2, 1000m) before taking out the Maurice McCarten (Gr 3, 1100m) last weekend. In winning on Saturday, the son of Toronado took his record to five wins and 11 placings in 24 starts. Shelby Sixtysix was bought for $150,000 by his trainer and Astute Bloodstock at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and on Saturday he beat Big Parade (Deep Field) by a head, with In The Congo (Snitzel) third. 

Toronado is currently standing at Haras de Bouquetot in France where his 2022 fee is set at €8,000. He covered a book of 172 mares at Swettenham Stud last year at a career high fee of $49,500 (inc GST). 

 

12 for I Am Invincible 
Yarraman Park's I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) sired his 12th Group 1 winner when the Jamie Richards-trained Imperatriz (3 f ex Berimbau by Shamardal) won the Levin Classic (Gr 1, 1600m) at Trentham on Saturday. A $360,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by David Ellis from the draft of Bhima Thoroughbreds, Imperatriz beat her stablemate On The Bubbles (Brazen Beau) by three quarters of a length, taking her tally to six wins and two placings in 9 starts. 

I Am Invincible is currently the leading sire in Australia by both earnings and winners and he has 41 lots catalogued for next month's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. 

 

First for Burgundy 
Third in last year's New Zealand 1000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m), the Jamie Richards-trained Belle En Rouge (3 f ex Cavendish Belle by Thorn Park) got her Group 1 victory in Saturday's New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) at Trentham. The filly scored a half-length victory over stablemate Self Obsession (Shocking), with Aspen Colorado (Proisir) a close third. 

The victory provided the late Cambridge Stud sire Burgundy (Redoute's Choice) with his first Group 1 winner. The son of Redoute's Choice (Danehill) died in 2019 due to laminitis. 

 

New stakes winners
88 for Pins
In winning Saturday's N E Manion Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) at Rosehill, No Compromise (5 g ex Baggy Green by Galileo) handed Pins (Snippets) his 88th stakes winner. The Chris Waller-trained gelding beat Surefire (Fastnet Rock) by a half length. The formerly Waikato Stud-Based Pins died in 2018 at the age of 21. He is currently third in the leading broodmare sires table by earnings in New Zealand. 

 

92 for Lope De Vega 
Ballylinch Stud's Lope De Vega (Shamardal) sired his 92nd stakes winner on Saturday when Monegal (6 m ex Sublissime by Rock Of Gibraltar) won the Epona Stakes (Gr 3, 1900m) at Rosehill. Monegal, who was bought for $3,000 by her trainer at the 2017 Inglis Scone Yearling Sale, beat Nerve Not Verve (Shocking) by two and a quarter lengths. Lope De Vega shuttled to Australia for four seasons between 2011 and 2014 and his 2022 fee at Ballylinch Stud is advertised at €125,000. 

 

94 for Lonhro
Emanate (5 m ex Guelph by Exceed And Excel) returned to winning form in Saturday's Birthday Card Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Rosehill and in winning became the 94th stakes winner for Darley's Lonhro (Octagonal). Trained by James Cummings, Emanate, a sister to Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed entire Encryption, scored an impressive four and three quarter length victory over Marboosha (Dream Ahead). Steinem (Frankel) was third. 

 

194 for Exceed And Excel
Darley's Exceed And Excel (Danehill) recorded his 194th stakes winner when Left The Building (2 c ex Vincennalia by More Than Ready) won the Perth Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Ascot. Having finished third on debut in November, the Luke Fernie-trained colt beat Street Parade (Lucky Street) by a nose, with Kosta's Crown (Supido) three quarters of a length further back in third. Left The Building was sold by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds to Arlington Park Racing for $170,000 at the 2020 Inglis Great Southern Sale before being purchased for $130,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale last year when offered by Kitchwin Hills. 

Exceed And Excel has 17 lots catalogued for the forthcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. 

 

Six for Playing God
The Darling View Thoroughbreds-based Playing God (Blackfriars) was represented by his sixth stakes winner when Son Of A God (5 g ex Faslizan by Fasliyev) won the Grandstand Cup (Listed, 1500m) at Ascot on Saturday, scoring a one and three quarter length victory over Bruce Almighty - another son of Playing God. 

 

Four for Hallowed Crown
Having finished fourth in the Telegraph (Gr 1, 1200m) back in January, Can I Get An Amen (5 m ex Brianna by Sudurka) returned to winning ways in the Lightning Handicap (Listed, 1200m) on Saturday and provided her sire, the Twin Hills Stud-based Hallowed Crown, with his fourth stakes winner. 

Hallowed Crown stood for a third consecutive year at a fee of $11,000 (inc GST) in 2021 and his stakes winners are headed by Group 1 winner Colette who is from her sire's first crop. 

 

137 for Street Cry 
The late Darley stallion Street Cry (Machiavellian) notched up his 137th stakes winner when Leaderboard (7 g ex Flower Fairy by Dynaformer) won the New Zealand St Ledger (Listed, 2600m) at Trentham. Trained by Jamie Richards, the USA-bred gelding beat Letsbringiton (Sebring) by a length and a quarter, recording his fifth victory in a 23 start career.
