Snapdancer becomes the 12th Group 1 winner for the late Choisir

New Group 1 winners
12 for Choisir
Coolmore Stud's late sire Choisir (Danehill Dancer) sired his 12th Group 1 winner on Saturday when Snapdancer (5 m ex Snapdragon by Galileo) won the Robert Sangster Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Morphettville. The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained mare beat Away Game (Snitzel) by a length and a half and in winning, Snapdancer provided a timely update for her The Mission (Choisir) half-sister who is catalogued as Lot 524 in the forthcoming Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. Choisir died in December at the age of 22.

 

New stakes winners
Three for Dissident
Dissident notched up stakes winner number three when the Lisa Latta-trained Diss Is Dramatic (2 f ex Our Drahma Queen by Darci Brahma) won the Listed Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Riccarton Park on Saturday. Recording her second career victory in five starts, Diss Is Dramatic beat Redmond (Ghibellines) by three quarters of a length. The winner was bought by Go Racing for NZ$60,000 at Book 1 of last year's Karaka sale when offered by Cambridge Stud. Dissident's other stakes winners are the dual Group 2 winner Yes Baby Yes and Listed winner Pancho and he has also sired six stakes placegetters. Having started his career at Newgate Farm, Dissident relocated to Riverdene Stud last year where his fee for 2022 is set at $6,600 (inc GST).

 

Six for Ghibellines
Stakes placed previously, Live Drama (5 m ex Sheeza Drama by Pure Theatre) won the Listed Great Easter Handicap (1400m) on Saturday, becoming the sixth stakes winner for Ghibellines (Shamardal). Ghibellines, who has four crops of racing age, is based at White Robe Lodge and his stakes winners include the Group 2 winner Markus Aurelius.

 

Five for Headwater
Aitch Two Oh (2 f ex Very Dogmatic by Swiss Ace) was the winner of Saturday's Listed Without Fear Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville and in winning she became the fifth stakes winner for Vinery Stud's Headwater (Exceed And Excel). Bought by Richard and Chantelle Jolly for $65,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions Adeialdie Yearling Sale for $65,000 from the draft of Baramul Stud, Aitch Two Oh scored by a head from Winning Revolution (Winning Rupert), taking her record to three wins and one second in four career starts. Headwater covered 136 mares at Vinery Stud last season at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST) and his fee remains the same for 2022.

 

Stakes double for I Am Invincible
Yarraman Park's I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) sired a stakes double on Saturday. The Tony Gollan-trained Nettuno (2 c ex Saint Minerva by Galileo) remained unbeaten when he won the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast. Nettuno was a $500,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Gollan Racing, John Foote Bloodstock and Black Soil Bloodstock from the draft of Yarraman Park and provided his sire with his 76th stakes winner and 38th juvenile stakes winner.

 

At Gosford, Blondeau (4 g ex Bit Of Cheek by More Than Ready) won the Listed Takeover Target (1200m), giving his sire his 77th stakes winner. The gelding was a $360,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Waller Racing and Mulcaster Bloodstock at the 2019 sale from the draft of Baramul Stud.

I Am Invincible has sired 12 Group 1 winners including Brazen Beau, Hellbent and Home Affairs who will retire to Coolmore Australia this year.

 

29 for Pierro
Coolmore Australia's Pierro (Lonhro) recorded his 29th stakes winner when Lord Cosmos (2 g ex Cosmic Powers by Not A Single Doubt) won the Listed Waikato Equine Vet Centre Stakes (1200m) at Te Rapa. Now the winner of two of his five career starts, Lord Cosmos was a $190,000 purchase by David Ellis at Book 1 of last year's Karaka sale from the draft of Hallmark Stud and on Saturday he beat Mazzolino (Savabeel) by a half length. Pierro is the sire of Group 1 winners Arcadia Queen, Regal Power, Shadow Hearo, Pierata, Levendi and Pinot and Lord Cosmos is the eighth juvenile stakes winner for the son of Lonhro (Octagonal).

 

14 for Pride Of Dubai
Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) sired his 14th stakes winner on Saturday when Splendiferous (4 m ex Magical Mist by High Chaparral) won the Listed Port Adelaide Cup (2500m) at Morphettville. Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Splendiferous was bought by James Bester Bloodstock for $100,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and on Saturday under Craig Williams, the mare pulled clear to score a four and three quarter length victory. Lygia (Manhattan Rain), a winning half-sister to Splendiferous, is catalogued as Lot 1189 https://catalogue.magicmillions.com.au/lot/22GWM/1189 at the forthcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale in the draft of Willow Park Stud. Lygia is now a half relation to two stakes winners with her half-brother Ballistic Boy (Smart Missile) a dual Group 3 winner. Pride Of Dubai's 2022 fee has been set at $16,500 (inc GST).

 

First for Scissor Kick
The previously stakes placed Dzsenifer (4 m ex Phaedra by Hussonet) won the Listed Silk Stocking (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday becoming Scissor Kick's (Redoute's Choice) first stakes winner, the mare's fifth victory in 17 starts. Scissor Kick stood in Australia for four seasons between 2016 and 2019 and then relocated to Haras d'Etreham in France, but did not stand this season.

 

75 for Sebring
Dynasties (3 f ex Empress Rock by Fastnet Rock), who was third in the JHB Carr Stakes (Gr 3, 1300m) at Randwick last start, won her first start in Queensland in Saturday's Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) and in doing so became the 75th stakes winner for Widden Stud's late sire Sebring (More Than Ready). The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Dynasties beat favourite Gypsy Goddess (Tarzino) by a half length, with Smirk (Preferment) third.
