Dual Group 1 winner Snapdancer will be one of the star attractions at this year's National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast.

Magic Millions on Monday confirmed that the daughter of Choisira would be offered at its premier broodmare offering, which this year will take place from May 23 to 25.

The six-year-old was retired due to injury in December after a career that netted seven wins – and $2 million – from 20 starts, including wins in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) and Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Group 1 level for trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.

Brad Spicer from Spicer Thoroughbreds, whose colours Snapdancer carried after being bought by Spicer in partnership with Darren Weir for $180,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, said many of her owners are likely to head to the Gold Coast to say farewell.

"Whilst it's sad that it has come to an end, hopefully she can go on and be just as successful as a broodmare," Spicer said.

"Everyone was pretty keen to get her up to the Magic Millions sale. It's always nice to get up to Queensland and a lot of the owners will travel up to see her take the final step in the journey.

"I think she will be well sought after when she gets to the sales ring this year."

The National Broodmare Sale has produced some of the most expensive mares in Australian history in recent years, headlined by $4.2m buy Sunlight in 2020. Away Game and Tofane sold for $4m and $3.1m respectively last year, while Arcadia Queen sold for $3.2m in 2021.

The two Group 1 wins were Snapdancer's most significant wins, but she also won last year's Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) and $1m Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) and finished runner-up in the Group 1 Tatt's Tiara (1400m) at her penultimate appearance.

Snapdancer will be prepared for sale by Sherah Sullivan of Sullivan Bloodstock, who have been looking after her for the past two months.

"Being asked to consign a mare like Snapdancer in our second year is incredibly humbling," Sullivan said.

"We're absolutely delighted and we couldn't dream of getting a mare like her. It's unreal.

"She's a lovely mare, she arrived early December and has been in the paddock letting down and of course getting spoilt rotten. She has been getting the works, is in terrific order and looks amazing."

Nominations are now open for the National Broodmare Sale and can be made via the Magic Millions website.
