A look back at the racing and breeding career of the late Show A Heart

In the wake of the death of Show A Heart last week, we look back at not only what the chestnut achieved on the racetrack, but the impact he had in the breeding barn.

The son of Brave Warrior, who was euthanized late last week at the age of 25 after losing much of his mobility, was an enduring and versatile horse on the track and until Anamoe came along was the only Australian horse this millennium to win a Group 1 race at two, three and four years of age.

His juvenile Group 1 win came in the J J Atkins (1600m) in his home state of Queensland, he was awarded the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at three and won a Toorak Handicap (1600m) and Stradbroke Handicap (1600m) at four.

He had an immediate impact at stud, winning Australia's Champion First-Season Sire award in 2006, and went on to produce a string of good horses, including three Group 1 winners before being retired from stud duty in 2020.

Heart Of Dreams won an Australian Guineas (1600m) and Underwood Stakes (1800m) at the highest-level, Toorak Toff won a Golden Rose (1400m) and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), while Woorim won an Oakleigh Plate (1100m), a race Show A Heart placed in at three.

Luke's Luck, Vo Heart and Mimi Lebrock were his Group 2 winners, the latter also winning a Magic Millions 2YO Classic, while Heart Of Dreams younger brother Rightfully Yours and Royal Tithe won at Group 3 level.

Heart Of Dreams was Show A Heart's standout ratings performer, running to 124 in both his Group 1 wins, but the Mick Price-trained gelding obtained his peak rating when second to Whobegotyou in 125 in the Caulfield Stakes (2000m).

Toorak Toff's peak rating of 123 came in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, while Woorim was assessed at 120 for his last-to-first win in the Oakleigh Plate.
