Dark Angel and Dubawi add classic winners on Sunday

New Group 1 winners
11 for Dark Angel

Mangoustine (3 f ex Zotilla by Zamindar) won the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (1600m) at Longchamp on Sunday to hand her sire, Dark Angel (Acclamation), his 11th Group 1 winner and first classic winner. Under Gerald Mosse, Mangoustine held on to score by a head over the George Boughey-trained 1,000 Guineas (1m) winner Cachet (Aclaim). Dark Angel stood for a fee of €60,000 at Yeomanstown Stud this year and his other Group 1 winning progeny include multiple Group 1 scorer Battaah and his dual Group 1 winning sire son Harry Angel, who sired his first Northern Hemisphere-bred winner last week, shuttles to Darley's Kelvinside Farm where his 2022 fee has been set at $16,500 (inc GST).

 

49 for Dubawi
Making his seasonal debut, the Charlie Appleby-trained Modern Games (3 c ex Modern Ideals by New Approach) won Sunday's Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (1600m) at Longchamp, handing Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) his 49th Group 1 winner. Starting favourite, Modern Games pulled clear in the closing stages to score by a length and a quarter over Texas (Wootton Bassett). Later in the day the Wertheimer and Frere-bred Goldistyle (4 f ex Goldikova by Anabaa) won the Listed Prix Maurice Zilber (1400m) becoming stakes winner number 229 for Dubawi. Darley's Dubawi is currently the leading sire in Europe by prizemoney.

 

New stakes winners
48 for Camelot

Cairde Go Deo (3 f ex Elusive Galaxy by Elusive City) scored a dominant eight length victory in Saturday's Listed Yeats Stakes (1m5f) at Navan and in winning gave Coolmore Stud's Camelot (Montjeu) his 48th stakes winner. The sire's 47th stakes winner came earlier in the day when his Irish-bred son Point Nepean won the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes (2800m) at Flemington. Camelot shuttled to Coolmore Australia for just one season in 2014 while his sire sons include Widden Stud's Russian Camelot who will cover his second book of mares this spring.

 

Five for Caravaggio
Former Coolmore Australia shuttler Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) sired stakes winner number five when Tiber Flow (3 c ex Malabar by Raven's Pass) won the Listed Carnarvon Stakes (6f) at Newbury on Saturday. Caravaggio's fee at Ashford Stud in Kentucky was set at US$35,000 this year.

 

187 for Fastnet Rock
Lust (4 g ex Desire Moi by Galileo) handed Fastnet Rock (Danehill) his 187th stakes winner when he won Sunday's Listed Owenstown Stud Stakes (7f) at Naas. Bred and raced by Newtown Anner Stud, Lust ran on to claim a length and a half victory over Diadora (Dansili), recording his fourth career victory. Out of a sister to dual Group 1 winner Lush Lashes, Lust is the 26th stakes winner by Fastnet Rock out of a daughter of Galileo (Sadler's Wells), with the cross firing at 20 per cent stakes winners to runners.

 

74 for Footstepsinthesand
Footstepsinthesand (Giant's Causeway) notched up his 74th stakes winner when the Joseph O'Brien-trained Brostaigh (3 f ex Coachella by Danehill) won Sunday's Listed Sprint Stakes (5f) at Naas. Foostepsinthesand now stands at Castle Hyde Stud in Ireland where his 2022 fee was advertised at €12,500 and he shuttled to Australia for two seasons in 2005 and 2006 during which time he covered 166 mares.

 

Stakes double for Frankel
Stepping up into stakes company for the first time on Sunday after breaking her maiden last start, Hidden Dimples (3 f ex Manderley by Clodovil) became the 96th stakes winner for Juddmonte Farm's Frankel (Galileo) when she won the Listed Prix de la Seine (2200m) at Longchamp. The day prior, Nashwa (3 f ex Princess Loulou by Pivotal), who broke her maiden last start at Haydock, scored a decisive length and three quarter victory in the Listed Fillies' Trial Stakes (1m2f) at Newbury, providing her sire with his 95th stakes winner. Frankel stood for a career high fee of £200,000 at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket this year, having stood the past four seasons for a fee of £175,000 and he is currently the leading European sires by stakes winners having sired 13 so far this season, four more than Dubawi.

38 for No Nay Never
Coolmore Stud's No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) recorded his 38th stakes winner when the Aidan O'Brien-trained Meditate (2 f ex Pembina by Dalakhani) remained unbeaten in two starts in Sunday's Group 3 Irish EBF Fillies Sprint Stakes (6f) at Naas. Starting favourite, Meditate beat Comhra (Vocalised) by a length and a quarter and will now likely head to Royal Ascot for the Group 3 Albany Stakes (6f). No Nay Never, who has sired three Group 1 winners in Alcohol Free, Ten Sovereigns and Brook, stood for a second consecutive year at a fee of €125,000 in 2022 with fee peaking in Europe at €175,000 in 2020.

 

24 for Power
The victory of Ponntos (3 c ex Blessing Box by Bahamian Bounty) in Sunday's Group 3 Prix de Saint-Georges (1000m) at Longchamp gave Power (Oasis Dream) his 24th stakes winner. Having previously shuttled, Power now resides permanently at Oaklands Stud in Queensland where he covered a book of 90 mares last year.

90 for Sea The Stars
The Aga Khan Stud's Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) sired his 90th stakes winner on Saturday when Ottoman Fleet (3 g ex Innevera by Motivator) won the Listed Fairway Stakes at Newmarket. After finishing second on debut at Newbury last month, the Godolphin-owned gelding, who was bought for 425,000gns at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 in 2020, defeated favourite Zain Sarina (Churchill) by a half-length.
