Ladies Church wins the Marwell Stakes at Naas on Wednesday
First season sire Churchill (Galileo) sired his first stakes winner when Ladies Church (2 f ex Rioticism by Rio De La Plata) ran out a strong winner of the Marwell Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Naas on Wednesday. The Johnny Murtagh-trained filly raced close to the pace for taking over with two furlongs to run before drawing right away to score by two and a quarter lengths over Pennine Hills (Kodiac), with Sophie’s Star (Cotai Glory) a further length and three quarters back in third. Ladies Church was a £160,000 purchase at the 2020 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale purchase by J. P. Murtagh Racing / Peter Nolan.
Churchill will stand for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST) this year having covered a book of 119 mares last year for a fee of $19,250 (inc GST).
