The Henri-Alex Pantell-trained The Summit (3 c ex Acola by Acatenango) propelled himself into the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas) (Gr 1, 1600m) picture with a shock victory in the Prix de Fontainebleau (Gr 3, 1600m) at ParisLongchamp on Monday and in the process became Wootton Bassett’s (Iffraaj) ninth stakes winner.

The three-year-old colt showed a good turn of foot to beat Ecrivain (Lope De Vega) by a length and three quarters, while Victor Ludorum (Shamardal) finished another three quarters of a length away in third, bringing to an end his unbeaten record.

Purchased by Paul Nataf for €16,000 at the Arqana October Yearling Sale, the colt is one of six winners and became the first stakes winner out of Acola (Acatenango).

Acola herself is a half-sister to Group 2 winner and sire Chineur (Fasliyev) and the dams of Group 3 scorer Dibajj (Iffraaj) and Listed-winning pair Iffranesia (Iffraaj) and Black Sea (Dubai Destination).

Wootton Bassett stands at Haras d'Etreham where his fee in 2020 was advertised as €40,000 and his multiple Group 1-winning son Almanzor shuttles to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand.
