Filly becomes third first-crop winner for Belardo
The Clive Cox-trained Isabella Giles (2 f ex Majestic Dubawi by Dubawi) ran out an easy winner of a EBF fillies’ maiden over six furlongs at Leicester on Saturday and in process handed Haunui Farm shuttler Belardo (Lope De Vega) with his third first-crop winner.
Sent off the 9/4 favourite, the two-year-old filly justified her odds when she beat Famille Rose (Shalaa) by half a length with another neck back to Alghada (Territories) in third - a quinella for horses by southern hemisphere shuttlers.
Purchased by Kevin Ross Bloodstock for €45,000 at the 2019 Goffs Ireland Sportsman's Yearling Sale, the filly is out of Group 3-winning Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) mare Majestic Dubawi, making her a half-sister to Listed scorer Majestic Colt (Clodovil).
Further back this is the family of Group 3 winner Lope Y Fernandez (Lope De Vega), who finished third behind Siskin (First Defence) in the Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) at the Curragh on Saturday evening.
Belardo has made a good start to his career as a stallion and Isabella Giles joins Golden Melody and Got Luck, who won earlier in the week as the stallion’s other stakes winners.
The stallion will stand at Haunui Farm for a fee of NZ$10,000 in 2020.
Today's opening contest goes to Isabella Giles, who wins on debut for Clive Cox and Adam Kirby
