Eilean Dubh (2 c ex Kenwana by Kendargent) ran out a ready winner of the maiden over 1400 metres at Dax in France on Saturday and in the process handed Rich Hill Stud shuttler Vadamos (Monsun) with his second first-crop winner.

The two-year-old colt beat Boujoc (Hunter’s Light) into second with Normandy Beech (Le Havre) coming home in third.

Purchased by Meridian International for €28,000 at the Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale as a foal in 2018, Eilean Dubh was then purchased by his trainer Charles Gordain for €30,000 at the Osarus September Yearling Sale.

The colt is out of winning Kenargent (Kendor) mare Kenwana, who is herself a out of Listed winner Matwan (Indian Rocket).

Kenwana is a sister to Group 3 winner Batwan, while she also counts Listed scorer Wanaway (Galiway) as one of her half-siblings.

Matwan herself is a half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Myasun (Panis) and the dams of Group 3-winning duo Morando (Kendargent) and Lacarolina (Charge d'Affaires).

The Group 1 winning son of Monsun (Konigsstuhl) had 31 yearlings sold for a total of NZ$3,148,057 at an average of NZ$101,550 in 2020 and finished Karaka 2020 (Books 1 and 2) as the leading first season sire by average with a top price of NZ$330,000. He will stand for a fee of NZ$15,000 (plus GST) at Rich Hill this season.

He stands at Tally Ho Stud in Ireland where his 2020 fee was set at €6,000.
