The Andre Fabre-trained Alkandora (3 f ex Poplin by Medicean) landed the Prix Melisande (Listed, 2100m) at Longhamp on Thursday and in the process became stakes winner number 19 for the Newsells Park-based Nathaniel (Galileo).

The three-year-old filly came out on top of a close finish to beat Moon A Lisa (Sea The Moon) by a nose, while Irska (Hunter’s Light) was another three quarters of a length away in third.

Purchased by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 85,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from Oakgrove Stud draft, the filly is out of the winning mare Poplin, who is herself out of Lancashire Oaks (Gr 2, 1m3.5f) winner Pongee (Barathea).

Pongee is also the dam of Dr Drill (Dansili), who won the Cranbourne Cup (Listed, 2025m) and Scone Cup (Listed, 1600m) and Listed scorer Pinzolo (Monsun).

Further back this is the family of Group 3 winner Pacifique (Montjeu) and Listed scorer English King (Camelot) - who will shoot for Derby (Gr 1, 1m4f) glory on Saturday at Epsom.

English King is a brother to Prudenzia (Dansili), who in turn produced 2019 LKS Mackinnon Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Magic Wand (Galileo) and dual Group 1 winner Chicquita (Montjeu).

Nathaniel is most famous for being the sire of superstar mare Enable, who makes her seasonal reappearance in the Coral-Eclipse (Gr 1, 1m2f) on Sunday at Sandown and he stood at Newsells Park for a fee of £25,000 in 2020.

Later on in the afternoon at Longchamp, Dream Works (3 c ex Sablonniere by Verglas) landed the Prix Ridgway (Listed, 2000m) and in doing so became the 12th stakes winner for Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj).

The three-year-old colt was last seen breaking his maiden at the second time of asking and he was able to build on that performance with a three-quarter length victory over Hayzum (Anodin), while Bright Melody (Dubawi) finished another nose further adrift in third.

Purchased for €110,000 at the 2018 Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale, the colt is out of the unraced mare Sablonniere (Verglas), making him a half-brother to Group 3 scorer King Malpic (King’s Best) and two winners.

Sablonniere herself is a half-sister to Listed-placed Xaarienne (Xaar), who in turn produced Xaarino (Kendargent).

Further back this is family of Ribblesdale Stakes (Gr 2, 1m4f) winner Sahara Slew (Seattle Slew), Group 3 winner Sandbar (Oasis Dream) and Listed-winning pair Brasileira (Dubai Destination) and Listed winner Bolleville (Camelot).

Wootton Bassett is represented in the southern hemisphere by his multiple Group 1-winning son Amazour, who will shuttle to Cambridge Stud where he will stand for a fee of NZ$30,000 (plus GST).
