The Charlie Appleby-trained Summer Romance (3 f ex Serena’s Storm by Statue Of Liberty) returned to winning ways on Saturday when she landed the Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 3, 1m 1/2f) at Epsom.

The daughter of Kingman (Invincible Spirit) had not won since she landed the Empress Fillies’ Stakes (Listed, 6f) at Newmarket last July and had finished midfield behind Love (Galileo) in the 1000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) on her seasonal reappearance at Newmarket last month.

On Saturday she went straight to the lead and maintained that position to the line, beating Cloak Of Spirits (Invincible Spirit) by three quarters of a length. The first two were well clear of the remaining runners with Rose Of Kildare (Make Believe) another three and three quarter lengths back in third.

Summer Romance was bought by Godolphin for €800,000 at the Arqana Breeze Up Sale in 2019 having been bought the previous year for 300,000gns by Oceanic Bloodstock at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1.

She is out of the winning Statue Of Liberty (Storm Cat) mare Serena’s Storm making her a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner Rizeena (Iffraaj). Her second dam is Princess Serena (Unbridled’s Song), the dam of eight winners including the dual Group 2 winner and Swettenham Stud-based sire Puissance De Lune (Shamardal) and last year’s Prix d’Ispahan (Gr 1, 1850m) winner Zabeel Prince (Lope De Vega).

Summer Romance is one of 22 stakes winners and became the 12th Group winner by the Juddmonte Farms-based sire Kingman who has sired two Group 1 winners to date in Persian King and Palace Pier.

Puissance De Lune meanwhile will stand for $18,000 (plus GST) this year.
