Yeomanstown Stud-based Dark Angel (Acclamation) enjoyed a double on Sunday which saw his stakes tally move to 63. The double was kicked off by the Roger Teal-trained Gussy Mac (2 c ex Masaya by Dansili) who showed a good turn of foot to win the Dragon Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Sandown, while the second leg of the double was provided by Sonaiyla’s (4 m ex Sinaniya by More Than Ready) victory in the Sweet Mimosa Stakes (Listed, 6f) at Cork.

Last seen breaking his maiden at the second time of asking at Wolverhampton, the Gussy Mac colt showed tenacity to overhaul Significantly (Garswood) in the closing stages, eventually beating him by half a length with another three quarters of a length back to Internationaldream (Acclamation) in third.

Purchased by Richard Ryan for £52,000 at the 2019 Goffs UK Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale, the two-year-old is one of five winners - first stakes winner - out of the two-time winning and stakes placed Dansili (Danzig) mare Masaya, who is herself out of Listed winner Anbella (Common Grounds).

The colt’s third dam, Tolga (Irish River), produced Prix de l’Opera (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Satwa Queen (Muhtathir), who in turn is the dam of Listed winner Important Time (Oasis Dream). Tolga also produced fellow elite level winner Spadoun (Kaldoun).

This was the third stakes victory for a progeny off the stallion in two days, with Art Power having produced an ultra impressive performance to win the Lacken Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Naas on Saturday.

Meanwhile later in the afternoon, the Willie Lee-trained Sonaiyla beat the Phoenix Thoroughbreds-raced Back To Brussels (Starspangledbanner) by half a length in the Sweet Mimosa Stakes.

Sonaiyla is out of winning More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Sinaniya, who is herself out of Listed winner Sindirana (Kalanisi) - the dam of fellow Listed scorer Sirrin (Sea The Stars).

Further back this is family of Anglesey Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) winner Marie’s Diamond (Footstepsinthesand) and Mornington Cup Prelude (Listed, 2000m) winner Sikandarabad (Dr Fong), while this is also the family of multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire Sinndar (Grand Lodge).

Dark Angel is represented in Australia by his Group 1-winning son Harry Angel, who will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside base for a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
