The Lloyd Williams-owned gelding Pondus (4 g ex Diablerette by Green Desert) ran out a ready winner of the Lenebane Stakes (Listed, 1m4f) at Roscommon on Tuesday and in the process handed Lanwades Stud-based Sea The Moon (Sea The Stars) with his 9th stakes winner.

Having his second start for Joseph O’Brien having begun his career with James Fanshawe, the four-year-old gelding galloped clear in the final stages to beat the OTI Racing-owned Camphor (Camelot) by two and a quarter lengths with another length and three quarters back to Helvic Dream (Power) in third.

Purchased by Corps Commerce / Litex Commerce at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale from the St Simon Stud draft 25,000gns, he was then snapped up by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 80,000gns at Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the Britton House Stud draft.

The gelding is out of Diablerette (Green Desert), who is herself a half-sister to Group 1 winner Lady Jane Digby (Oasis Dream) and Group 3 winner Gateman (Owington).

Sea The Moon’s progeny is headed by Coronation Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) winner Alpine Star, who also finished second in the Prix de Diane (Gr 1, 2400m) on the weekend and he stood for a fee of £15,000 in 2020.
