Mare becomes stakes winner number 151 for Pivotal
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Romola (4 m ex Dianora by New Approach) bounced back from her lacklustre display in the Snowdrop Stakes (Listed, 1m) with a comprehensive win in the Pipalong Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Pontefract on Tuesday and in the process handed Cheveley Park stallion Pivotal (Polar Falcon) with his 151st stakes winner.
The Cheveley Park Stud hombred four-year-old mare thrived in the wet conditions to beat Iconic Choice (Sixties Icon) by a length with the same distance back to Salayel (Bated Breath) in third.
Romola, who is a three-quarter sister to prolific winner Duke Of Firenze, is out of the placed New Approach (Galileo) mare Dianora.
Dianora is herself the daughter of dual Group 1-winning mare Nannina (Medicean).
The filly’s third dam is Group 3 winner Hill Hopper (Danehill) - a half-sister to Adelaide Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Water Boatman (Main Reef) and the dam of Windsor Park Plate (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Pure Champion (Footstepsinthesand).
Pivotal’s stakes winners are headed by 31 Group 1 winners including Addeybb, who landed the Ranvet Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m), multiple Australian Group 1 winner Avilius.
The stallion’s 2020 fee at Cheveley Park Stud in Newmarket was advertised as private.
