Having only managed to beat one home in the 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) last month, the Charlie Appleby-trained Al Suhail (3 c ex Shirocco Star by Shirocco) bounced back to winning ways in the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Newmarket on Thursday and in the process handed Darley’s perennial stallion Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) with his 184th stakes winner.

The three-year-old colt surged clear to beat Mystery Power (No Nay Never) by an impressive six lengths with another three-quarters of a length back to Ropey Guest (Cable Bay) in third.

Purchased for a hefty 1,100,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the Meon Valley draft, the colt is out of winning and Group 1-placed Shirocco (Monsun) mare Shirocco Star, making hima half-brother to Group 2 winner Telecaster (New Approach).

The colt’s third dam produced Group 3 winner and Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) runner up France (Desert Prince) and Listed-winning pair Media Hype (Tiger Hill) and Hippy Hippy Shake (Danehill Dancer) - the latter the dam of fellow Listed winner Twist ‘N’ Shake (Kingman).

Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) - who stood at Darley’s Dalham Hall for a fee of £250,000 and he will be represented in Australia this season by his multiple Group 1-winning son Too Darn Hot, who will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).
