The Charlie Appleby-trained Master Of The Seas (2 c ex Firth Of Lorne by Danehill) emulated his sire Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) with a victory in the Superlative Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) at Newmarket on Saturday and in the process handed the Darley stallion his 185th stakes winner.

Last seen breaking his maiden at Newmarket on June 18, the two-year-old colt never looked in any trouble, gliding effortlessly to the front and eventually going away to beat Devious Company (Fast Company) by a comprehensive three lengths with another length back to Seventh Kingdom (Frankel) in third.

“William [Buick, jockey] said he got there too soon and he gave him a little bit of a harder race than he wanted to as he got there and all of a sudden everything just fell away. He is a nice stamp of a horse and he has a lovely temperament on him at home and what we have seen on the racetrack.

“We might have a look at the National Stakes and give him a trip over there (Ireland). We will give him a little bit of a break as Goodwood would come a bit quick, so the likely route is we will head to the National.

“He has been very straightforward and, dare I say it, one of the horses that has been under the radar slightly.

“William said he wasn't stopping there. It is a bit early to be getting too excited where we might be next year, but he is definitely a horse that has got the right attitude and physique to see him go beyond a mile with a bit of luck.”

The son of Dubawi - who won the race in 2004 - is out of Listed winner and Group 1-placed Danehill (Danzig) mare Firth Of Lorne, making him a half-brother to UAE Oaks (Gr 3, 1900m) winner Falls Of Lora (Street Cry), the dam of ATC Doncaster Prelude (Gr 3, 1600m) winner Cascadian (New Approach).

Firth Of Lorne is also the dam of Listed scorers Latharnach (Iffraaj) and Etive (Elusive Quality).

The colt’s second dam is Group 3 winner Kerrera (Diesis), who finished second in the 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) and she is the dam June Moon (Sadler’s Wells), who in turn produced Group 2-winning pair Dupont (Zafonic) and Pacino (Zafonic) and Listed winner Zachariah (Zafonic). Kerrera is also the grandam of Listed winner Ceremonial Jade (Jade Robbery).

Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) - who stood at Darley’s Dalham Hall for a fee of £250,000 and he will be represented in Australia this season by his multiple Group 1-winning son Too Darn Hot, who will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST), while his other son Time Test will shuttle to Little Avondale in New Zealand in 2020.
