In Swoop (3 c ex Iota by Tiger Hill) was too strong for his rivals in the German Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) in Hamburg on Sunday and in the process became Adlerflug’s (In The Wings) fourth Group 1 winner.

The Francis-Henri Graffard-trained colt beat Torquator Tasso (Adlerflug) by three-quarters of a length with the same distance back to Grocer Jack (Oasis Dream) in third.

The colt is out of Group 1 winner Iota (Tiger Hill) making him a brother to fellow Group 1 winner Ito and a half-brother to New Zealand Group 3 winner Igraine (Galileo), who was purchased by Paul Moroney on behalf of Trelawney Stud’s Brent and Cherry Taylor for 65,000gns at the 2017 Tattersalls December Mare Sale and they decided to keep her training.  The mare won five times in the southern hemisphere, headlined by her victory in the Counties Cup (Gr 3, 2100m).

Coolmore stallion Fastnet Rock (Danehill) was elected as the first cover for Igraine, meaning the resulting foal will be bred on the same cross as recent Hampton Court Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) winner Russian Emperor.

Iota herself is a half-sister to Illo (Tertullian) and Listed winner Ioannina (Tertullian), who was placed at Group 1 level.

Adlerflug stood at Gestut Schlenderhan in Germany for a fee of €10,000 in 2020.
