Rosemont Stud shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) sired his 13th stakes winner on Sunday courtesy of Dickiedooda’s (2 f ex So Dandy by Oratorio) victory in the Tipperary Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Cork.

Last seen running tenth in the Queen Mary Stakes (Gr 2, 5f) at Royal Ascot, the two-year-old filly bounced back with a comprehensive length and three quarter win over Grammata (Twilight Son), while Chief Little Hawk (Air Force Blue) finished another half a length away in third.

Purchased for 30,000gns at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale, the filly is out winning Oratorio (Danehill) mare So Dandy, who is herself a half-sister to Listed winner Power Elite (Linamix) and fellow Listed scorer La Sylvia (Oasis Dream).

Further afield this is the same family as Listed winners Mutakarrim (Mujtahid) and Nafisah (Lahib), who in turn is the dam of Group 3-winning duo Hawaakom (Jazil) and Snaffy (Kingmambo).

Starspangledbanner’s progeny is headed by Group 1-winning pair The Wow Signal and Millisle, who like Dickiedooda was trained by Jessica Harrington, and he will stand at Rosemont Stud in Victoria for a fee of $19,800 (inc GST) in 2020.

Later on in the afternoon at Cork, former shuttler Holy Roman Emperor (Danehill) sired his 88th stakes winner when the Jessica Harrington-trained Valeria Messalina (3 f ex Arty Crafty by Arch) landed the Brownstown Stakes (Gr 3, 7f).

Last seen running ninth in the Irish 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m), Valeria Messalina appreciated the step back in trip, beating Unforgetable (Muhaarar) by a length with another short-head back to  Soul Search (Zoffany) in third.

The filly is out of four-time winner Arty Crafty (Arch), making her a half-sister to Desmond Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) winner Pincheck (Invincible Spirit).

Holy Roman Emperor shuttled to Australia for eight seasons and he stood at Coolmore Stud in Ireland for a fee of €15,000 in 2020.
