The Martyn Meade-trained Method (2 c ex Darsan by Iffraaj) showed he was a force to be reckoned with in the two-year-old ranks this season as he landed the Rose Bowl Stakes (Listed, 6f) at Newbury on Saturday and in the process became the first stakes winner for Tally-Ho Stud-based first season sire Mehmas (Acclamation).

The two-year-old colt came into the race off the back of a winning on debut at Doncaster on June 26 and he showed his class when beating Mighty Gurkha (Sepoy) by two and a quarter lengths, while Imperial Yellow (New Bay) finished another three and a quarter lengths away in third.

“I think he is very good on that showing,” said Meade. “It was a hands and heels ride and the horses finished in the right order. He lived up to every expectation. I was really pleased with him.

“He did it like a true professional. He was in the stalls for a long time, which is always a bit of a worry, but he was last time as well so he doesn’t worry about that particularly.

“He got a really nice tow into the race, so it all panned out well for him. He is the sort of horse that if it did go wrong in a race he would put it right. You could have picked him out early on at home and he has just gone on progressing. He is a simple horse and the best ones always are.”

The colt was purchased by Dermot Farrington for £20,000 at the 2019 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale from Whatton Manor Stud draft, having been snapped up by Western Thoroughbreds for €16,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale from the draft of Pipe View Stud.

Method is out of the winning Iffraaj (Zafonic) mare Darsan, who is herself a half-sister to Listed winners Bella Tusa (Sri Pekan) and La Vita E Bella (Definite Article) - the grandam of Lennox Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) winner Dutch Connection (Dutch Art).

Mehmas has made a good start to his stallion career and has sired eight winners in total. He stood at Tally-Ho Stud in Ireland for a fee of €7,500 in 2020.
