A trip to France paid off for trainer Charlie Fellowes as Onassis (3 f ex Jacqueline Quest by Rock Of Gibraltar) proved too classy for her rivals in the Prix De Bagatelle (Listed, 1600m) at Chantilly on Sunday, chalking up Darley Stud-based Dubawi’s (Dubai Millennium) 186th stakes winner.

The filly landed the Sandringham Handicap (1m) at Royal Ascot in June, before finishing fourth in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 3, 1m1/2f) at Epsom earlier in the month and she made amends for that performance when slicing through the field to decisively beat Kenpleya (Kendargent) by a length and three-quarters, while Dream Memory (Charm Spirit) finished another neck away in third.

The well-bred daughter of Dubawi was purchased by Jamie McCalmont for 200,000gns at Book 1 of the 2018 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and she is out of winner Jacqueline Quest (Rock Of Gibraltar) who was unlucky not to snare a Group 1, finishing first past the post in the 2010 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m), but was demoted to second, while she also finished third in the Coronation Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) that same year.

Jacqueline Quest has proved herself a top-class broodmare, producing four foals to race, with all being winners and they are headed by Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (Gr 1, 8f) winner Line Of Duty (Galileo) and Listed-placed Hibiscus (Galileo).

Further afield the filly’s third dam is Juno Madonna (Sadler’s Wells) - who in turn produced Group 3 winner Regime (Golan) and Listed winner Salut D’Amour (Danehill Dancer).

Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) - who stood at Darley’s Dalham Hall for a fee of £250,000 and he will be represented in Australia this season by his multiple Group 1-winning son Too Darn Hot, who will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).

Later on in the afternoon at Chantilly, Dariyma (4 m ex Darma by Danehill Dancer) landed the Prix De La Pepiniere (Listed, 2100m) and in the process became City Zip’s (Carson City) 87th stakes winner.

Meanwhile, last year’s Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Persian King (4 c ex Kingman - Pretty Please by Dylan Thomas) added a second elite level victory to his CV when he landed the Prix d'Ispahan (Gr 1, 1800m).
