Rosemont Stud shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) looks to have an exciting two-year-old for the season as the Fozzy Stack-trained Aloha Star (2 f ex Zain Art by Excellent Art) out-ran her 33/1 odds in the Airlie Stud Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at the Curragh and handed the son of Choisir (Danehill Dancer) his 14th stakes winner.

The filly was purchased by his trainer and Hubie De Burgh for €67,000 at the 2019 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale from the Grove Stud draft, having been snapped up by the operation for €42,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale.

Having broken her maiden on third start at Bellewstown on July 2, the filly showed tenacity in spades to beat pre-race favourite Frenetic (Kodiac) by a head, while Mother Earth (Zoffany) finished another length and three-quarters further back in third.

The filly is out of the unraced Excellent Art (Pivotal) mare Zain Art, who is herself a half-sister to Listed winner Battalion (Authorized).

Aloha Star’s third dam is Group 3 winner Danzigaway (Danehill), who is herself the dam of dual Grade 2 scorer Silent Name (Sunday Silence) and Listed winner and now sire Galiway (Galileo), while she is also the grandam of Group 3 winner Slalom (Intello) and Listed winner Folamour (Intello).

Starspangledbanner’s progeny is headed by Group 1-winning pair The Wow Signal and Millisle and he will stand at Rosemont Stud in Victoria for a fee of $19,800 (inc GST) in 2020.
