Lola Showgirl breaks maiden
The David Loughnane-trained Lola Showgirl (3 f ex Exempt by Exceed And Excel) - by former Darley shuttler Night Of Thunder (Dubawi) - produced a brilliant performance to break her maiden in a handicap over seven furlongs at Chepstow on Tuesday.
Having run second in her two previous appearances, the filly showed an explosive turn of foot to beat Eternal Blush (No Nay Never) by a decisive three and three quarter lengths with another length and a quarter back to Gilt Edge (Havana Gold) in third.
Purchased by Compas Equine for €15,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale from the Milltown House Stud draft, the filly is the third winner out of unplaced Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Exempt, who is herself a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Three Degrees (Singspiel) - who was also placed at Grade 1 level and Listed scorer Mehronissa (Iffraaj).
The filly’s third dam is Gorgeously Divine (Al Hattab), who in turn produced Reissaurus (Country Pine) - the grandam of Listed-winning trio Red Hot N Gold (Gold Case), Seekingtherainbow (Mutakddim) and Missmekissme (Sir Cat). This is also the same family as Grade 3 winner Head Heart Hoof (Intidab) and Listed winner Vicki Vallencourt (Regal Classic).
The son Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) - who has sired 15 stakes winners in total - shuttled to Australia for one season and his southern hemisphere crop is headed by two stakes winners, including Group 2 winner A Beautiful Night. The stallion fires at an extraordinary stakes / runners rate of 13.9 per cent.
Night Of Thunder now resides exclusively at Darley's Kildangan Stud in Ireland where his fee for 2020 was set at €25,000. It was announced last month that he would also be available to cover to southern hemisphere time.
