Regally bred American Pharoah filly wins on debut at Leopardstown
The Donnacha O'Brien-trained Nicest (2 f ex Chicquita by Montjeu) - who is by Coolmore Stud shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) - made a winning debut in the Decorated Knight Irish EBF Fillies Maiden (1m) at Leopardstown on Thursday.
Bred by Coolmore, the two-year-old filly prevailed in a close finish to beat Talacre (Flintshire) by a head, while the winner’s stablemate Willow - who is also by American Pharoah and out of Peeping Fawn (Danehill) - finished another three and three quarter lengths away in third.
Nicest is out of 2013 Irish Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) winner Chicquita (Montjeu), who was purchased by Peter and Ross Doyle for an colossal €6,000,000 at the Goffs November Mare Sale in 2013 and her first foal Secret Thoughts (War Front), is also a winner and was placed at Group 3 level.
Chicquita herself is out of Listed-winning Dansili (Danehill) mare Prudenzia, making her a half-sister to LKS Mackinnon Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Magic Wand (Galileo).
Prudenzia is a three-quarter sister to Cranbourne Cup (Listed, 2025m) and this season’s Scone Cup (Listed, 1600m) winner Dr Drill (Dansili), while she is also a half-sister to Group 3 winner Pacifique (Montjeu) and Listed winner English King (Camelot).
Further back this is the same family as Listed winer Puce (Darshaan) - the dam of Pongee (Barathea), who in turn produced the aforementioned Dr Drill and fellow Listed scorer Pinzolo (Monsun). This is also the family of 2017 Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Rekindling (High Chaparral).
American Pharoah's progeny is headed by Grade 2-winning pair Sweet Melania and Four Wheel Drive and he will stand at Coolmore's Jerrys Plains base for a fee of $55,000 (inc GST) in 2020.
