Darain (Dubawi) - the most expensive yearling sold anywhere in the world in 2018 when he was purchased by David Redvers for an eye-watering 3,500,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale - followed up his maiden at victory at Newbury earlier in the month, with a victory in the Newmarket Festival Charitable Novice Stakes (1m2f) at Newmarket on Friday.

The John Gosden-trained three-year-old colt, who is raced by Qatar Bloodstock and Watership Down Stud, is a brother to multiple Group 1 winner Too Darn Hot, who is set to embark on his first covering season at Darley’s Kelvinside base in 2020 and he beat Vottoria Light (Shamardal) by two and a quarter lengths with another two lengths back to War Cross (War Front).

The regally-bred son of Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) is out of a champion in Dar Re Mi (Singspiel) - who landed three Group 1s in a glittering career on the track. As well producing the aforementioned multiple Group 1 winner Too Darn Hot, she is also the dam of Group 2 winner Lah Ti Dar (Dubawi) and Group 3 winner So Mi Dar (Dubawi).

Dar Re Mi herself is out of fellow champion racemare Darara (Top Ville), making her a half-sister to a trio of Group 1 winners in Diaghilev (Sadler’s Wells), Rewilding (Tiger Hill) and Darazari (Sadler’s Wells), while she also counts Listed winner Dariyoun (Shahrastani) among her other half-siblings. The mare is also a half-sister to the dams of Group 2 winner Darasim (Kahyasi) and Listed-winning pair Moohaarib (Oasis Dream) and Trethias (Invincible Spirit).

Too Darn Hot will stand for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST) at the Hunter Valley-based stud in 2020 and he will be joined by fellow newcomer and Group 1 winner Microphone (Exceed And Excel), who will be offered ot breeders at a fee of $38,500 (inc GST).
