CHINDIT (Wootton Bassett) took a big step forward when taking out the Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Ascot on Saturday and in the process was awarded a Timeform rating of 107p and marking himself a Group 1 horse for the future.

An eye-catching winning on debut at Doncaster, the well-made son of top class stallion Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj) travelled by far the best in the strong ten runner race run on good to firm ground. He showed a good turn of foot and posted a very good Timefigure further adding weight to the striking performance.

Earlier in the afternoon at Ascot, ZABEEL QUEEN (Frankel) posted an impressive debut victory, overcoming greeness to take out the Fillies Novices Stakes relishing every bit of the seven furlong trip and stayed on the best up the hill to score with a little in hand. She posted a rating of 93+ and has been awarded a 99P by Timeform. The filly is out of Listed-placed mare Dubai Queen (Kingmambo) - who is herself a half-sister to top-class stallion Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) and she could very well prove to be a Classic filly in the future.

ALBASHEER (Shamardal) is a name to note down in the blackbook and could be the next star for the late Darley stallion Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) judging by his facile six and half length victory in a seven furlong maiden at Doncaster on Saturday. He settled well off the slow early pace, before making good progress and was able to quicken right away to score by a comfortable margin. His performance of 98+ was the highest for a first time out maiden winner this season and is most certainly a horse to keep an eye on.

At Windsor on Monday recent Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale purchase MYSTERY SMILES (Mehmas) overcame a slow start to power away in the straight to post a strong two and three quarter length victory. This five furlong maiden at Windsor does not normally produce future Group horses, but this colt has plenty of speed and scope and it would not surprise to see him become another stakes winner for his promising first season-sire Mehmas (Acclamation), who has made a good start with his first lot of runners.

Meanwhile at Galway on Monday evening, a potential Classic colt was unearthed by Dermot Weld in the form of BLUE FOR YOU (New Approach). Only a sixth on debut at Leopardstown two weeks’ ago, the son of New Approach (Galileo) took a big step forward when staying on strongly on the soft ground to get up late to score by three quarters of a length. He ran a respectable 91p and is a horse that should keep on improving especially up in trip.
