A trip to France proved worth it for trainer Mick Channon and jockey Tom Marquand as Cairn Gorm (2 c ex In Your Time by Dalakhani) kept his unbeaten record intact in the Prix De Cabourg (Gr 3, 1200m) at Deauville on Sunday and handed Juddmonte Farms stallion Bated Breath (Dansili) with his 15th stakes winner.

A winner of his two previous starts, the two-year-old colt stayed on well to beat Jubilation (Acclamation) by a length with another head back to Prince Lancelot (Sir Prancealot) in third.

Bred and owned by Steven Smith’s Hunscote Stud, the colt is out of In Your Time (Dalakhani), who was the first mare Smith bought when he set up the stud in 2012.

“She was the first mare we ever bought when we started the stud back in 2012,” said Smith. “She is from a good family. She was a tricky mare to get in foal and we tried a lot of times with her, but we finally found the trick with her and the Bated Breath cover is one we may well look at again.

“We’re absolutely delighted. We were hopeful when we came over this morning, but for him to win in that style was a little bit of a surprise to be honest.

“He is a very professional horse and he took it very well today.”

In Your Time is the dam of one other winner and she is a three-quarter sister to Musidora Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) winner and Group 1-placed Time Away (Darshaan) - the dam of Group 2 winner Time On (Sadler’s Wells), who in turn produced fellow Group 3 winner Mot Juste (Distorted Humor).

Meanwhile, Time Away is also the grandam of Moyglare Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) winner Cursory Glance (Distorted Humor). This is also the family of Grade 2 winner Digital Age (Invincible Spirit), Chief Ironside (Lawman), who won the 2019 Crystal Mile (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley and multiple Japanese Grade 3 scorer Incantation (Sinister Minister).

Bated Breath stood at Juddmonte Farms’ Banstead Manor in Newmarket for a fee of £12,500 in 2020.
