The John Gosden-trained Miss Yoda (3 f ex Monami by Sholokhov) made a triumphant return to the country of her birth to land the Preis Der Diana (German Oaks) (Gr 1, 2200m) at Dusseldorf on Sunday and in so doing became the 14th Group 1 winner for Gilltown Stud-based resident Sea The Stars (Cape Cross).

After leading much for much of the contest, Miss Yoda - who was ridden by Frankie Dettori - was briefly headed as the field turned into the straight, but she fought back and eventually pulled away to post a three-quarter length victory over Zamrud (Samum), while Virginia Joy (Soldier Hollow) was another nose away in third.

It was a first victory in the race for both Gosden and Dettori and the winning jockey said: “She jumped good. I wanted to be in front and I was in front by the bend. After that she was flowing with a lovely action.

“When I turned for home she was thinking of going back to the stables, so she stopped a bit. But then I said ‘come on, concentrate’, and away she went.”

Bred by Gestut Etzean and purchased by Blandford Bloodstock at the 2018 BBAG September Yearling Sales €280,000, the Westerberg-owned filly is one of two winners out of the Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed mare Monami (Sholokhov).

Monami herself is out of Monbijou (Dashing Blade), making her a half-sister to Group 1 winner Meridiana (Lomitas), who in turn produced Listed-scoring duo Chamois (Smart Strike) and Infinite Wisdom (Smart Strike).

Further back the filly shares a page with Group 2 scorer Meergorl (Alderflug), Group 3 winner Moonshiner (Alderflug) and Listed-winning trio Maitre Levy (Monsun), Mannico (Banyumanik) and Meerjungfrau (Manduro).

Sea The Stars - whose progeny is headed by 14 Group 1 winners include last season's Australian Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Fifty Stars and Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) victor Shraaoh - stood at the Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud for a fee of €150,000 this year.
