Darley shuttler Territories (Invincible Spirit) sired his eighth winner courtesy of Rhoscolyn (2 c ex Zeyran by Galileo) shedding his maiden tag at the third time of asking in a novice event over seven furlongs at Haydock on Monday.

The colt finished fourth on debut at Doncaster in July, before finishing fifth at Newbury later on in the month. However the Charlie Hills-trained two-year-old had no issues on Monday, pulling away to beat Eagle Terrace (Glenagles) two and three quarter lengths with another three-quarters of a length back to Broomy Law (Gleneagles) in third.

The colt was purchased by BBA Ireland for 75,000gns during Book 1 of the 2019 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the Lynn Lodge Stud, having been purchased by Margaret O'Toole for 38,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale the year before.

Rhoscolyn becomes the second for the winning Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Zeyran, who is herself a half-sister to the dam of Listed winner and Group 2-placed Fev Rover (Gutaifan).

The colt’s third dam is Group 2 winner Nashmeel (Blushing Groom) - the dam of Listed winners Lynton (Lyphard) and Battle Dore (Sanglamore) and Grade 1 winner Light Jig (Danehill), who in turn produced fellow elite level winner Seek Again (Speightstown), Group 3 scorer Treble Jig (Gone West) and Listed winner Scottish Jig (Speightstown).

Further back this is also the family of Dunedin Guineas (Listed, 1500m) winner Another Coup (Darci Brahma).

Rhoscolyn joins Regional, Royal Scimitar, Teresa Mendoza, William Bligh, Rougir, Terrible Land and Uncle Jumbo as the stallion’s other first crop winners, while he is also the sire of Listed-placed Fulgentia. The son of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) is set to stand at Darley’s Kelvinside base at a fee of $11,000 (inc GST) in 2020.
