Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) was handed his fourth first-crop winner courtesy of Cream Of The Crop’s (2 f ex I'm So Glad by Clodovil) victory over five furlongs at Catterick on Tuesday.

Last seen running fifth on debut at Newbury, the Michael Bell-trained two-year-old filly stayed on well to beat Risk Of Thunder (Night Of Thunder) by a neck, while Passthecourvoisier (Coulsty) was another two lengths away in third.

Purchased by Two For One Racing for 42,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale in June from the Tally-Ho Stud draft, the filly is out of Listed-placed mare I’m So Glad (Clodovil).

I’m So Glad herself is a half-sister to Prix Eclipse (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Souvenir Delondres (Siyouni).

Meanwhile, the filly’s third dam - Terracotta Hut (Habitat) - produced Listed winner Terrioir (Fairy King) and Grade 2 winner Distinct Habit (Distinctive Pro) - the dam of Listed winner Mr Routine (Mt. Livermore). Distinct Habit is also the grandam of fellow Listed winner Awesome I Am (Awesome Again).

Cream Of The Crop joins Speak No Alexander, Cherie Amour and Shalaalaa as the stallion’s other winners, while Coventry Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) placegetter Saeiqa, also features among his first-crop. Shalaa will stand the 2020 season at Arrowfield Stud in the Hunter Valley for a fee of $33,000 (inc GST).
