Petricor lands Marettes Maiden Stakes
Frankel (Galileo) looks to have another exciting two-year-old in the form of the well-bred Petricor (2 f ex Ruscombe by Dansili) who landed the Marettes Maiden Stakes (1500m) at Deauville on Sunday.
Bred and raced by Juddmonte Farms, the two-year-old filly looked to be labouring with three furlongs left to travel, but she picked up well for pressure to beat Grace Shelby - who is by Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) - by a length and a half with another three-quarters of a length back to Kid Conte (Lemon Drop Kid) in third.
The Andre Fabre-trained filly is out of the winning Dansili (Danehill) mare Ruscombe, who is herself out of Park Hill Stakes (Gr 3, 6.5f) winner Eva Luna (Alleged).
Eva Luna proved herself to be top-class producer with her seven winners headed by dual Group 1 winner and sire Brian Boru (Sadler’s Wells), while she is also the dam of Sea Moon (Beat Moon), whose three Group 2 wins included the Herbert Power Stakes (Gr 2, 2400m) and Listed winner Kitty O’Shea (Sadler’s Wells).
Kissy O’Shea herself produced Listed winner Kissable (Danehill Dancer), who in turn produced Listed winner Amandine (Shamardal).
Kitty O’Shea is also the grandam of winner Workforce (King’s Best), who won the Derby (Gr 1, 1m4f) and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) in 2010, while further back this is also the family of 2018 Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) Best Solution (Kodiac).
Frankel stood at Juddmonte Farm's Banstead Manor base in Newmarket for a fee of £175,000 in 2020. The son of Galileo is represented in the southern hemisphere by his son Eminent, who will stand at Brighthill Farm in New Zealand for a fee of NZ$7,500 (plus GST) in 2020 and Frankel My Dear who will stand his first season Ryand Thoroughbreds in Victoria for a fee of $6,600 (inc GST).
