Velma Valentino steps up at Clairefontaine
The previously stakes placed mare Velma Valentino (5 m ex Bunny Lebowski by Echo Of Light) won Friday’s Prix Defi (Listed, 1800m) at Clairefontaine and in doing so became the sixth stakes winner for her sire Dabirsim (Hat Trick).
Out of the winning Echo Of Light (Dubai Millennium) mare Bunny Lebowski, Velma Valentino, who like her sire is trained by Christophe Ferland, beat Glycon (Le Havre) by a short neck. The Hamdan Al Maktoum-raced Ridaa (New Approach) was another two lengths back in third.
Velma Valentino is the only winner for her dam who is a half-sister to the stakes placed pair Wadaat (Diktat) and Mrs Snow (Singspiel). Her third dam is Great Revival (Keen) who produced German champion Walzerkoenigin (Kingmambo) and dual Group 1 winner Weiner Walzer (Dynaformer).
A dual Group 1 winner as a juvenile, Dabirsim stands at Haras de Grandcamp where his 2020 fee was €12,000. His other stakes winners include the Group 3 winning pair Coeur de Beaute and Different League.
