Laburnum lands Hurry Harriet Stakes
A drop back in class clearly suited Laburnum (3 f ex Secret Garden by Danehill) when she landed the Hurry Harriet Stakes (Listed, 1m1½f) at Gowran Park on Wednesday and in the process handed Coolmore Stud’s peerless stallion Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) with his 324th stakes winner.
Last seen running fourth in the Irish Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f), having finished second in the Oaks Trial (Listed, 1m2f) on July 4, the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly put her experience to good use, beating stablemate Ennistymon (Galileo) by a length and a quarter, while A New Dawn (Zoffany) was another half a length away in third.
Bred by Swettenham Stud, the Coolmore owned-three-year-old is out of Listed-winning Danehill (Danzig) mare Secret Garden, making her a sister to dual Group 1 winner Roderic O’Connor and Group 3 scorer (Dazzling).
Secret Garden herself is half-sister to Lady Aquitaine (El Prado), who in turn produced Listed-winning pair Lady Of Kyushu (Smart Strike) and Clint Maroon (Oasis Dream), while this is also the family of Italian Group 3 winner Wickwing (In The Wings).
The filly is bred on one of the most successful crosses in global bloodstock, with daughters of Danehill producing 55 stakes winners, headlined by 15 Group 1 winners when mated to Galileo.
Coolmore Stud-based sire Galileo has stood for a private fee since 2008, and he will be represented in Australia this season by his sire sons Adelaide, Churchill and Highland Reel.
The likeable Laburnum (Galileo) grabs that all-important Listed success, denying stablemate Ennistymon in the Hurry Harriet at @GowranPark1
