Expensive American Pharoah filly breaks maiden
The Donnacha O’Brien-trained Oh So True (3 f American Pharoah - Shawara by Barathea) got off the mark at the fifth time of asking as she landed the Irish EBF Supporting Irish Champions Weekend Fillies Maiden (1m1½f) at Gowran Park on Wednesday.
The three-year-old filly, who was purchased by Coolmore’s MV Magnier for €750,000 at the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale, finished strongly to beat St Clerans (Golden Horn) by a length and a quarter with another three and a quarter lengths back to Menagerie (Fastnet Rock) in third.
Bred by Barronstown Stud, the filly is out of Listed-winning mare Shawara (Barathea), making her a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Shareta (Sindaar) and a further three winners.
Shawara herself is a half-sister to dual elite level-winning mare Shawanda (Sinndar) - the dam of Enke (Kingmamabo), who beat Camelot (Montjeu) in the 2012 St Leger (Gr 1, 1m6.5f) and thus denied him the Triple Crown. Shawanda alsp produced Group 3 winner Genius Beast (Kingmambo).
Further back this also the family of Listed winner Shamaniya (Doyoun), who in turn produced fellow Listed winner Bebe Cherie (Youzmain).
American Pharoah's progeny is headed by Grade 2-winning pair Sweet Melania and Four Wheel Drive and he will stand at Coolmore's Jerrys Plains base for a fee of $55,000 (inc GST) in 2020, while his first-crop of southern hemisphere yearlings hit the tracks this season.
€750,000 filly Oh So True (American Pharoah) is now a winner, not for passing under @waynemlordan for @donnacha_obrien at @GowranPark1
