Ten years ago to the day Frankel (Galileo) burst onto the scene in a maiden at Newmarket and his prowess as a sire was on show at Salisbury on Thursday when his daughter Alpinista (3 f ex Alwilda by Hernando) landed the Upavon Fillies’ Stakes (Listed, 1m2f) and in the process handed the Juddmonte Farms stallion with his 56th stakes winner.

Last seen running an unlucky fourth in the Prix Madame Jean Couturie (Listed, 2000m) on July 20, the three-year-old filly skipped away in the final stages to beat Award Scheme (Siyouni) by an impressive three and a quarter lengths, while Queen (Kingman) finished another head away in third.

Bred and raced by Kirsten Rausing, the three-year-old filly is out of German Listed winner Alwilda (Hernando), who is herself a daughter of three-time Group 1 winner Albanova (Alzao).

Albanova also produced Group 3 winner Algometer (Archipenko) and Listed winner All At Sea (Sea The Stars).

The filly’s third dam is Listed scorer Alouette (Darshaan), who produced dual Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) winner Alborada (Alzao) - the dam of Festival Stakes (Gr 3, 1500m) winner My Nordic Hero (Archipenko) and Listed winner Alvarita (Selkirk).

Frankel stood at Juddmonte Farm's Banstead Manor base in Newmarket for a fee of £175,000 in 2020. The son of Galileo is represented in the southern hemisphere by his son Eminent, who will stand at Brighthill Farm in New Zealand for a fee of NZ$7,500 (plus GST) in 2020 and Frankel My Dear who will stand his first season Ryand Thoroughbreds in Victoria for a fee of $6,600 (inc GST).
