The Joseph O’Brien-trained Pista (3 f ex Mohini by Galileo) came from last to first to win the Vinnie Roe Stakes (Listed, 1m6f) at Leopardstown on Thursday and in the process becomes the tenth stakes winner for Coolmore Stud shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile).

Last seen shedding her maiden tag at the second time of asking at Galway on August 2, the three-year-old filly raced out the back for much of the contest and showed an impressive turn of foot to beat Sunchart (Teofilo) by half a length in the shadow of the winning post, while Dawn Patrol (Galileo) was the same distance back in third.

Emperor Of The Sun (Galileo) - who is a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner and now successful sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor) - finished another two and three-quarter lengths back in fourth.

Purchased by Heider Family Stables for US$675,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the Gainesway Stud draft, Pista is out of the placed Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Mohini.

Mohini herself is out of Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Denebola (Storm Cat), who is the grandam of Prix de Diane (Gr 1, 2100m) winner Senga (Blame) and Listed scorer Bolting (War Front).

The filly’s third dam is dual Group 1 winner Coup De Genie (Mr Prospector), the dam of Group 3 winning-duo Snake Mountain (A P Indy), Loving Kindness (Seattle Slew) and Gila (A P Indy), with the latter being the grandam of multiple Grade 1 winner Emollient (Empire Maker) and Listed-winning pair Courtier (Pioneerof The Nile) and Hofburg (Tapit).

Coup De Genie is also the grandam of elite level scorers Bago (Nashwan) and Maxios (Monsun) and Listed winner Beta (Selkirk).

American Pharoah's progeny is headed by Grade 2-winning pair Sweet Melania and Four Wheel Drive and he will stand at Coolmore's Jerrys Plains base for a fee of $55,000 (inc GST) in 2020, while his first-crop of southern hemisphere yearlings hit the tracks this season.
