The John James Feane-trained Bounce The Blues (3 f ex Jazz Up by Cadeaux Genereux) came from last to first to spring a surprise victory in the Owenstown Stud Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Naas on Sunday and in so doing became the ninth stakes winner for former Coolmore shuttler Excelebration (Exceed And Excel).

Last seen breaking her maiden over course and distance on August 3, the three-year-old filly flew home to beat Soul Search (Zoffany) by half a length with another length and a quarter back to Baraniya (Iffraaj) in third.

Bounce The Blues is out of the unraced mare Jazz Up (Cadeaux Genereux), making her a half-sister to Athasi Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) Jazz Princess (Bahhare) and a further two winners.

Jazz Up herself is out of Listed scorer Slow Jazz (Chief's Crown) - who is also the dam of fellow Listed scorer Mister Cavern (Lion Cavern), while she is the grandam of Listed winner Jazz N Jokes (It’s No Joke) and Group 3 winner Miss O’Connor (Roderic O’Connor) - who sadly died after breaking her hind leg in the Strensall Stakes (Gr 3, 1m1f) at York on Saturday.

Former Coolmore Stud sire Excelebration - who was bred by the race sponsors Owenstown Stud - stood at the operation’s Ireland base, but was removed from their roster in 2019 and he stood in Australia for four seasons. His progeny is headed by Group 1 winner Barney Roy, who was retired to stand at Darley, but was gelded and sent back into training after proving to be infertile.
