Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) grabbed his seventh first-crop winner on Saturday as the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Legal Attack (2 c ex Lauren Louise by Tagula) made a winning debut in the Close Brothers Savings British EBF Novice Stakes (6f) at Newmarket.

The two-year-old colt raced out the back for much of the six furlong contest and when William Buick asked him for his effort he glided effortlessly to the front to come away with a cosy three-quarter length victory over Shark Two One (Adaay), while Giacommo (No Nay Never) was a further two and a half lengths away in third.

The colt was purchased from Malcolm Bastard by Blandford Bloodstock for 250,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale and he is clearly highly regarded by his trainers, with the colt holding an entry for the Middle Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) later on in the season.

Legal Attack is out of the winning mare Lauren Louise (Tagula), making him a half-brother to speedy duo Blaine (Avonbridge), who landed the Gimcrack Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) and Redcar 2YO Trophy (Listed, 6f) winner Bogart (Bahamian Bounty).

Shalaa's first European-bred crop also includes the stakes-placed Saeiqa who ran third in the Coventry Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Royal Ascot. He will stand his fourth season in Australia for an unchanged fee of $33,000 (inc GST) at Arrowfield Stud this spring.
