Listed glory for Bahrain Pride at Ripon

The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Bahrain Pride (2 c ex Life Of Pi by Sea The Stars) kept his unbeaten record intact with a victory in the Ripon Champion 2YO Trophy Stakes (Listed, 6f) on Monday and in the process handed Tally-Ho Stud-based sire Kodiac (Danehill) his 61st stakes winner.

A debut winner at Windsor on August 17, Bahrain Pride built on that performance when beating Internationaldream (Acclamation) by a length and three-quarters, while Terrichang (Dandy Man) was another half a length waway in third.

Purchased by Dromoland Farm for 125,000gns at the 2018 Tattersalls December Foal Sale from the Salcey Forest Stud draft he was then bought by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 300,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up from the Church Farm and Horse Park Stud draft.

Bahrain Pride is out of the unraced Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) mare Life Of Pi, who is herself a out of stakes-placed mare Noahs Ark (Charnwood Forest).

Noahs Ark also produced Listed winner Temps Au Temps (Invincible Spirit) and stakes-placed mare After (Danehill Dancer) - the dam of Futurity Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) winner Armory (Galileo).

Tally-Ho Stud-based sire Kodiac’s progeny is headed by four Group 1 winners, including 2018 Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Best Solution and the Cambridge Stud co-owned Hello Youmzain, who added a second Group 1 to his CV when he landed the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Royal Ascot earlier in the season.

“I’m delighted with that performance,” said Ed Crisford, who started training with his father this season. “He quickened up really well and did it nicely.

“We were a bit worried about the draw, and Ripon can be tricky for an inexperienced horse. He did look a bit inexperienced, but I was impressed by the way he quickened up.

“We’ll probably head for the Mill Reef Stakes next. The ground was soft at Windsor, and I’d imagine it was fairly tacky ground today, but I actually think he’ll be a better horse on better ground.

“Hopefully he’s a nice horse for the future.”
