The Aidan O’Brien-trained Kyprios (2 c Galileo - Polished Gem by Danehill) got his career off to the perfect start when he landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden (1m½f) at Galway on Tuesday.

Bred and raced by a syndicate that includes Moyglare Stud, the colt stayed on strongly to beat Lifetime Legend - who is by former Coolmore Stud shuttler Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) - by three-quarters of a length, while Flying Visit - another son of Pride Of Dubai - came home another neck away in third.

Kyprios is out of winning Danehill (Danzig) mare Polished Gem, making him a brother to Irish St Leger (Gr 1, 1m6f) winner Search For A Song and Listed scorer Falcon Eight, while he is also a half-brother to another elite level scorer in Free Eagle (High Chaparral), who shuttled to Cornerstone Stud for three seasons.

Polished Gem is also the dam of three-time Group 2 winner Custom Cut (Notnowcato), Group 2 winner Sapphire (Medicean) and Valac (Dark Angel), who won the SAJC Queens Cup (Gr 3, 2500m) in 2019.

Coolmore Stud-based sire Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) has stood for a private fee since 2008, and he will be represented in Australia this season by his sire sons Adelaide, Churchill and Highland Reel.

The colt is bred on one of the most potent crosses in the stud book, with 58 stakes winners, headed by 15 Group 1 winners being produced when Galileo is mated to mares by Danehill (Danzig).
