Queen Daenerys reigns at Longchamp
The Roger Varian-trained Queen Daenerys (3 f ex Song To Remember by Storm Cat) added valuable black-type to her CV when she landed the Prix Joubert (Listed, 2800m) at Longchamp on Thursday and in the process handed Juddmonte Farms stallion Frankel (Galileo) with his 58th stakes winner.
The filly was aimed at some lofty targets earlier in the season, including running fourth behind Love (Galileo) in the Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) and she was last seen finishing fourth in the Prix de Thiberville (Listed, 2400m) in July.
The filly put that experience to good use on Thursday to score a length and a quarter victory over Vadalda (Nathaniel), while the OTI Racing-owned Auyantepui (Night Of Thunder) finished a further four and a half lengths away in third.
Purchased by Oliver St Lawrence for US$500,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, the three-year-old filly is out of placed Storm Cat (Storm Bird) mare Song To Remember.
Song To Remember is also the dam Belmont Oaks (Gr 1, 9f) winner Magnificent Song (Unbridled's Song) and stakes placed-trio Great Barrier Reef (Mr. Greeley), Park Avenue (Mr. Greeley) and Galileo’s Song (Galileo).
Song To Remember is also the grandam of South African Listed winner Sing Out Loud (Dynasty) and South American Listed The Mindfulangel (Seek Smartly).
Frankel stood at Juddmonte Farm's Banstead Manor base in Newmarket for a fee of £175,000 in 2020. The son of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) is represented in the southern hemisphere by his son Eminent, who is standing at Brighthill Farm in New Zealand for a fee of NZ$7,500 (plus GST) in 2020 and Frankel My Dear who will is standing his first season Ryand Thoroughbreds in Victoria for a fee of $6,600 (inc GST).
Frankel has a strike rate of 15.8 per cent stakes winners to runners with his stakes winners headed by ten Group 1 winners.
