Former shuttler Lope De Vega (Shamardal) sired his 74th stakes winner on Saturday when Cadillac (2 c ex Sea Of Wells by Dansili) took out the Champions Juvenile Stakes (Gr 2, 1m) at Leopardstown.

Trained by Jessie Harrington, Cadillac pulled right away in the closing stages to beat Van Gogh (American Pharoah) by three and a half lengths with another two and three quarter lengths back to Reve De Vol (Siyouni) in third.

Bred by Sunderland Holdings, Cadillac won on debut over seven furlongs at Leopardstown in July and was last seen running second to Max Swiney (New Approach) in the Futurity Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) on August 22. He was bought for €40,000 by BBA Ireland at last year’s Goffs Ireland Orby Yearling Sale and is the first winner out of the winning Dansili (Danehill) mare Seas Of Wells.

His second dam is Kiyra Wells (Sadler’s Wells) who produced three winners and is a half-sister to Phoenix Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Damson (Entrepreneur) who produced the Group 2 winner and sire Requinto (Dansili). Further back this is the family of Prix Morny (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Arcano (Oasis Dream).

The Ballylinch Stud-based Lope De Vega shuttled to Patinack Farm for four seasons between 2011 and 2014 and his stakes winners are headed by 11 Group 1 winners including Haunui Farm shuttler Belardo, multiple Group 1 winning sprinter Santa Ana Lane, Vega Magic and Gytrash, who will represent Inglis in The Everest (1200m) on October 17.

The son of Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) is currently sitting tenth in the leading sires table in Ireland by earnings with Lucky Vega his leading earner in the country so far this year.
