The well-bred Fonthill Abbey (4 m ex Fair Hill by New Approach) broke through at stakes level for the first time when she landed the Prix Bertrand De Tarragon (Gr 3, 1800m) at Chantilly on Friday and in so doing brought up stakes winner number 189 for Darley stalwart Dubawi (Dubai Millennium).

Last seen being narrowly beaten into second in the Prix de la Cochere (Listed, 1600m), the four-year-old mare stayed on well to beat Thalyia (Motivator) by half a length, while Suphala (Frankel) finished another three-quarters of a length away in third.

The mare is the only winner out of the unraced New Approach (Galileo) mare Fair Hill, who is herself a daughter of Listed scorer Speirbhean (Danehill).

Speirbhean also produced dual Group 1 winner and former Darley shuttler Teofilo (Galileo) and dual Group 2 scorer Bean Feasa (Dubawi).

Further afield this is the same family as Listed-winning trio Graduated (Royal Academy), Dubai Sand (Teofilo) and Glamorous Approach (New Approach).

Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) stood at Darley’s Dalham Hall for a fee of £250,000 and he is represented in Australia this season by his multiple Group 1-winning son Too Darn Hot, who is standing at Darley’s Kelvinside base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).
