The Andrew Balding-trained Oo De Lally (2 c ex In Dubai by Giant's Causeway) ran out a shock winner of the Heatherwold Stud EBF Novice Stakes (7f) at Newbury on Saturday and in the process handed Rich Hill Stud shuttler Vadamos (Monsun) with his ninth first-crop winner.

Sent off the unfancied 125/1 shot, the colt was having his second career start having only beaten one home on his debut at Ascot on September 4, but he showed a good attitude to beat  Aratus (Free Eagle) by three-quarters of a length, while Luxy Lou (Last Lion) finished another two and a quarter lengths away in third.

The colt was purchased by his trainer for €62,000 at the Goffs Ireland Orby Sale in 2019, having been snapped up by Tally-Ho Stud - where Vadamos resides during the northern hemisphere season - for €37,000 at the Goffs Ireland November Foal Sale the year before.

Oo De Lally is out of winning Giant’s Causeway (Storm Cat) mare In Dubai, making him a half-brother to four other winners.

In Dubai herself is a daughter of 1998 Ribblesdale Stakes (Gr 2, 1m4f) winner Bahr (Generous), who also produced Listed winner Bahrah (Elusive Quality) and dual elite level winner Nahrain (Selkirk).

Nahrain is the dam of Benbatl (Dubawi), who won three times at Group 1 level, including the 2018 Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) and finished second to Winx (Street Cry) in the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) later that year.

Further back New Zealand Listed winner Alamer (Alamosa) and He's Our Rokkii, who won the Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) in 2016, and Phelan Ready Stakes (Listed, 1110m) winner Noogoora Burr (Royal Academy) also feature on the page.

Vadamos is standing for a fee of NZ$15,000 (plus GST) at Rich Hill this season, while he stood at Tally Ho Stud in Ireland at a fee of €6,000 in 2020.
