Ranch Hand blossoms in Rose Bowl Stakes

The late Overbury Stud stallion Dunaden (Nicobar) - who landed the 2011 Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) - was provided with his first stakes winner on Thursday as Ranch Hand (4 g ex Victoria Montoya by High Chaparral) landed the Rose Bowl Stakes (Listed, 2m) at Newmarket. 

Trained by Andrew Balding, the gelding is one of three winners out of the stakes-placed High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells) mare Victoria Montoya. 

Victoria Montoya herself is a half-sister to Group 2 winner and now sire Passing Glance (Polar Falcon), Group 3 winner Hidden Meadow (Selkirk) and Listed-winning duo Kingsclere (Fairy King) and Scorned (Selkirk). 

Victoria Montoya is also a half-sister to Casual Glance (Sinndar) - who produced Ka Ying Star (Cityscape), who won the Lion Rock Trophy Handicap (Gr 3, 1600m) in May, while he also finished second in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (Gr 1, 1400m) in February. 

Dunaden - who also landed the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) a year after his victory in the Melbourne showpiece - died last year at Overbury Stud in Gloucestershire.
